CREATING CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR YOUTH

Councilman Costello helped organize the first Building Trades Fair at Digital Harbor High School, held on Wednesday, Dec 16. The Building Trades Fair is a partnership between Digital Harbor, CHOICE Trades, which represents 17 organized labor trades unions in the Baltimore metropolitan area, and Councilman Costello.

It was an incredible opportunity to expose our high school students to the building trades. The trades provide a pathway to skilled labor through an apprenticeship program, ultimately leading to a sustainable and good paying career, which will allow them to provide for a family and retire with dignity. It also gave the building trades access to students in the Baltimore City Public Schools system, something they have long desired. Lastly, it provided the Digital Harbor administration an additional career option to present to over 600 students, helping to ensure they find a career that suits their needs. High schools in the Baltimore City Public Schools System are always searching for new and creating ways to expose our youth to new opportunities.

We all look forward to the Building Trades Fair again in the spring, with visits planned for both Digital Harbor and Renaissance Academy, and future plans to expand the program throughout the BCPS System. You may view some of the pictures from what was a truly successful event in this Facebook Photo Album.
